The
Community of Bullhead City
Located on the Colorado River, Bullhead City is a growing
southwest community with year-round outdoor recreation. Directly across
the river is nearby Laughlin, Nevada, which offers Vegas style casinos,
entertainment and restaurants. Boaters, fishermen and water skiers
enjoy the cool waters of the Colorado River, or nearby Lake Mohave.
Incorporated in 1984, the community was originally a mining
town known as Hardyville, for William Harrison Hardy, who, in the
1860’s, operated a ferry, trading post and lodging on the Colorado
River. The building of Davis Dam, which was completed in 1950, spurred
the growth of modern day Bullhead City. Eventually the community was
renamed for a likeness of a local rock island that resembled the
shoulders and head of a bull. Today the island is submerged under the
waters of Lake Mohave. Yet the community of Bullhead City is growing
strong.
Bullhead City is a magnet for those looking for year round,
outdoor recreation, varied entertainment options from rodeos to
concerts, or bluegrass festivals to motorbike rallies. Bullhead City
might be just what you’ve been looking for!
